MEMOTEXT Corp. Validating New Adherence Metric: The Balanced Adherence Metric (BAM)
MEMOTEXT to present at both Washington D.C.’s Health Datapalooza 2015 and Pittsburgh’s SMA 2015 this week
Washington, D.C. June 1, 2015 – MEMOTEXT Corp. announces today the upcoming presentation of the Balanced Adherence Metric (BAM). The BAM will be presented tomorrow by MEMOTEXT’s Director of Scientific Development Bill Simpson, Ph.D. Candidate in Neuroscience, at the inaugural Science of Medication Adherence conference (SMA 2015) at the University of Pittsburgh. MEMOTEXT also has a delegation at Washington D.C.’s Health Datapalooza 2015 including Founder and President of MEMOTEXT Amos Adler, M.Sc. Health Datapalooza 2015 runs from today until Wednesday and MEMOTEXT will be present for the entire duration. Currently, finding accurate ways to measure medication adherence can be difficult. Most adherence metrics use pharmacy claims data to measure an individual’s adherence. Many academics and professionals use measures like Proportion of Days Covered (PDC) or Medication Possession Ratio (MPR). But while these measures have several advantages, they don’t account for other adherence factors, such as delay to refill and medication persistence. To solve this, the BAM amalgamates the four most common adherence measures into a single metric, allowing for both greater accuracy and a more holistic approach to measuring a complex problem. “It’s the combination of the best of all four most common adherence measures that’s the real beauty behind the BAM” says MEMOTEXT’s Director of Scientific Development, Bill Simpson, Ph.D. Candidate in Neuroscience “By amalgamating them into one metric and using proper weighting the BAM is not only more accurate, but offers a more complete way of looking at medication adherence and an easier way to tie adherence to outcomes. I am both proud and excited to be presenting the fruits of our research tomorrow to members of the academic community at the University of Pittsburgh.” The BAM combines four claims data adherence measures: PDC, Compliance Rate (CR) (also known as adjusted MPR), Delay to Refill and Medication Persistence, into a single metric. Our research shows that a mathematical combination of these four metrics may be more beneficial than a single metric alone. Interpretation of the BAM is identical to PDC, making it simple for academics, professionals and the general public to understand. Furthermore, the simple formula can be calculated using a wide range of software, including: statistical packages, Excel and SQL. “Spearheading new developments like the BAM is a key part of what MEMOTEXT is all about” says MEMOTEXT Founder and President of Amos Adler, M.Sc. “One of the core pillars of our mission statement is to advance scientific research. I’m looking forward to utilising the BAM in our upcoming adherence programs to make them even more effective for our clients and patients.” About MEMOTEXT MEMOTEXT Corp. improves outcomes for patients and the bottom line for healthcare stakeholders by ensuring patients adhere to their treatment.
